Since I have an iPhone, I tend to use the navigation apps available for that, both on land, and when sailing. The range, and affordability of the apps is immense, and as with dedicated handheld GPS units, you need to look around at what’s available before you purchase.

I particularly like the part you said about “With the optional traffic feature that is available on the Zumo 450 you will never have to worry about that again.” as I think this is a very common feature on a lot of navigation models that folks simply don’t know about or use. It is one of my favorite features because like you said, it wears on the vehicle, whether that be a motorcycle or a car/truck…

Well covered topic, I personally use a Garmin GPS unit on my boat, but I find that the cost of the data cartiges is expensive. Satellite acquisition time is good, and the data cards do have added info such as nearest anchorage etc. Be warned though, it measures in a straight line so the nearest given one may not be the closest.As a backup I now tend to use my iPhone loaded with Navionics charts, have tested out against the Garmin, and the nav marks, depths etc correspond. I don’t know if the othe randroid mobiles have marine charts available, but if not I’m sure they won’t be long coming.
