How Truckers Routes and GPS Systems Work Well Together

You’ve probably heard of some magnificent teams in your day. Sonny and Cher. The Los Angeles Lakers. Laurel and Hardy. But I bet you’ve never heard of truckers routes and GPS navigation systems working together to create a great team. Believe me, it is possible. Just think about it. A navigation system was created to help drivers get from point A to point B with guided instruction throughout streets and on highways. In other words, these units help individuals route their way to their destination. Well as you know, the trucking industry spends the majority of its time having drivers transport materials across the country, which means a navigation system can help them immensely in reaching their location with ease. Since these two ideas work so well as a team, let’s look at why you as a trucker should consider getting your own before leaving for your next trip.

Transporting Goods Could be Easier

You already know that with gas prices being as high as they are, the trucking industry had to make accommodations along the way to create cost effective forms of travel. This may mean that you’ve had to pack fewer items for your trip. Or even charge higher rates to your clients in order to offset rising costs. Because the very nature of your business, transporting goods, has become a bit of a hindrance it’s important to find other ways to make transporting simple again. For many, the answer comes with the navigation system because it helps them to find the shortest, fastest routes to any location in the country, no matter how large or small the location is.

Also, truckers routes and GPS systems can work well together to help you transport goods more easily, which in turn saves you money, because they most offer turn-by-turn voice instruction. This very handy feature makes ure that you reach your destination without getting lost because it guides you with voice prompting to turn corners and exit on the proper highway exit when it is time. If for some reason you don’t make the turn when you should, the system can effectively recalculate a route that will get you back on track. So instead of pulling over to read pre-printed instructions, or calling for directions if you get lost, you can rely solely on your navigation system, making transporting your goods much easier.

You Can Locate Points of Interest with Ease

Another reason that truckers routes and GPS systems go well together is because many drivers on the road find themselves needing to make an unexpected stop, whether they need a restroom break, need to grab something to eat, or even need to get an extra toothbrush. Of course, there are always rest stops, fueling stations and convenience stores located off of the highway. But what if you reach a town and realize you need to go to an ATM. How will you find one? Or what if you have a taste for Mexican food but are unsure as to whether there is one in the town. Of course, you can always pull over and ask for this information. But a navigation system that offers a POI (point of interest) database can help you avoid this chore.

A POI database is a database filled with information on where you can find gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, ATMs and much more for whatever town you’re in. But that’s not all. The POI database can not only give you the names of these locations and what streets they can be found on, you can also receive turn-by-turn instructions to any of those places by simply routing where you are now to what is stored in the system. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Teletype Worldnav

Now you can see how truckers routes and GPS systems can work well together for those traveling across country. So let’s take a look at a one of the more popular units available, the Teletype Truck Routing Worldnav 3.5-inch system. It is a portable navigation unit meant for professional truckers as well as bus drivers and RV’ers. It offers truck restriction routing to help you avoid bridge heights, clearances, load limits and more. Also, it offers English or Spanish voice instruction, millions of POIs, hazmat routing, and an MP3/video player for entertainment.

Truckers routes and GPS systems are definitely making their mark as a great team. So see for yourself how great this match is. You might be surprised by all of the benefits you receive from engaging this duo. Then before you know it, the truckers routes and GPS system duo just might become a trio.

Magellan Road mate 1200 While on the Road

It seems everywhere you turn anymore GPS systems seem to be advertised or shown on television. They were very popular Christmas gifts and will be popular as father’s day gifts as well. One of the better models that is out there right now is the Magellan Road Mate 1200 and it is loaded with many different features that will help keep you on the correct path plus make sure you stay that way. The Road mate 1200 is fairly new and has a low end price which makes it a model many people will consider when they purchase. Is it right for you though let us further investigate and see if it merits a purchase anytime soon?

No matter what model you choose we all love features and the Magellan Road mate 1200 will not disappoint you that are for sure. It has all the goodies that you will want or every need. It has a sleek look and is pocket sized so it will not take up a lot of room which is nice especially if you are crammed for space in your vehicle. This means it also gives you the portability to take it with you if necessary. One of the things I hate doing is reading the instructions that come with many of these GPS systems and thanks to a innovative easy-to-use interface the road mate lets you find almost anything in a matter of seconds without the need for instructions. For those who want to pull it right out of the box and use it than this is a godsend. For us who hate instructions we must give the Magellan Road Mate 1200 a perfect score in this area.

A 3.5 inch QVGA color touch screen shows your position, points of interest, route, ETA, and much more on the screen. This is something that you will love. It has built in USA maps that are preloaded on the SD memory card which is a nice touch that is for sure.  With over 1.3 million points of interest such as gas stations, restaurants, ATM’s and more programmed in you should have no problem at all find your way around this country. Quick spell is another feature I love on the Road mate 1200. Many times we are in a hurry and spelling is something we do not think about so it corrects our mistake which is a nice added touch.

Smart Detour automatically reroutes you around slow traffic so you can stay on schedule. Nothing can be more frustrating than running into a traffic jam or something else that just slows down your trip. Rechargeable battery powers the unit, but will only last around three hours so you better have a power source if you plan on using it for a long time. Address book and auto night view means it adjusts the color and contrast for easy night viewing. As you can see it has a vast array of features that make it something to definitely consider.

Now we know it has great features, but how does it perform under testing is probably the real question. Many times you will find a great model that is loaded with features fail you when it is put to the test. Well you have no worries with the Magellan Road Mate 1200 as it is as good as advertised. The clean looking screen and almost flawless GPS readouts were more than anyone could expect since it has such a low end price. All the tests that I gave it passed with flying colors and it gets my stamp of approval that is for sure. Is it totally perfect? Nope, but what GPS system is none of the ones I have ever tried. The Road Mate is a good low end GPS unit that will give you many years of trouble-free operation.

Overall if you are just starting out with GPS than this is a great starter model for you. Most people tend to go to the more expensive ones to start out with, but now there really is no need to. This model gives you a ton of features at a very low cost to start out with. The big advantage of this is after a few years and you learn the ropes of these GPS systems you can get a more expensive model with added features. All-in all this is a very good model for the price and one many people should consider if they have never tried GPS before. This model will surprise you will what it can do and the low entry price should drive sales
