What goes into Rating Gps Systems?

Rating GPS Systems
How does one rate a GPS system? What goes into the commercial rating systems, the rating systems you see on the review pages across the net and in some magazines? Are they written by consumers, writers or the people who are selling the GPS systems?

Many sites and many consumers have different concerns when it comes to shopping for GPS systems. These sites and magazines also have different ways in which to display their ratings.

Some system uses a star method. This method generally uses a five star method. The more stars a product has the better quality, better price, better overall rating it achieved. This means if the product got five out of five stars, it is an amazing product. Yet, if it only got a one star product you can assume it is a fair product.

Other systems may use an alphabetical rating type system, like is used in schools: ABCD or F.

Then there are the systems that may use a rating system based on usefulness or lack of usefulness. Finally, there are rating systems that are based on actual tests and the proven results after the tests were finalized.

These reviews and ratings are sometimes written by writers, people selling the product, or other consumers. You should beware of the actual website address to help you decide which of the three could have written or helped to write any rating you read.

But the common ratings are based on such things as:

Price

Yes, price is a definite consideration.

A consumer can compare one model to another model, price wise. But the consumer should remember that the GPS system that has the most capabilities may very well be the most expensive. Yet, at the same time could definitely be worth the amount of money.

When looking at the prices consider all the capabilities and then consider how many of these capabilities you actually need.

Accuracy:

Does the GPS system actually take you the address you wish? Does the GPS system actually show you the actual speed you are driving? Does the GPS system actually pinpoint the correct mileage between destinations?

How close was the GPS system to being right or how many times was it right? These factors do matter.

Extra fun capabilities we all love

The more fun stuff that is added to the GPS system that more stars the GPS system will get or the higher rating it will receive. Rating systems and reviewers love extra capabilities such as:

Blue tooth capabilities
Text to Speech Capabilities
Size of the display
Easy bigger, buttons
MP3 player and audio players

Yet, beware that some of these extra fun capabilities will definitely raise the price level of the GPS system.

Ease of programming

Face it, we all are not that the great when it comes to programming or using our new techno toys. Ratings are definitely made that includes how easy each GPS system is for the common consumer to use.

Visibility of the onscreen directions

This is important because although we want to know where we need to go, we need to be safe going there. If we have problems seeing the screen clearly, this can be a cause for accidents.

Voice compatibility and ease of understanding

If the GPS system comes included with a built in speaker, how easy is it to understand the voice and how clear is the directions? This is also very important. If you have trouble understanding the directions, you will still have trouble finding your destination and the GPS system would be useless.

Actual performance levels

This rating is in place if the product is actually tested on the road. If it is being tested, rest assured that more than likely it will be tested more than once for reliability.
Beware though, that each rating system may not be alike. You may read a review and the ratings of a particular GPS system on one site and find that it got a low star rating. Then you may find that the same GPS system got a five star rating on another site. The reason could be that the consumer and reviewers of each site favors different aspects and different rating qualities. For instance, one may care more about the extra capabilities and functions than anything else whereas the second group of reviewers and consumers may feel that the overall performance is the key to any good GPS system.

For this reason, take the GPS rating system as a learning tool, not a decision making tool. Use it to learn more about your different choices and options when it comes to buying a GPS system. But use your overall decision of what is important to you as the basis as to which GPS system you ultimately buy.

How should you compare gps navigational systems?

Compare gps navigational systems
How should you compare gps navigational systems? Where do you start?

Should you start with price?

Do the most expensive gps navigational systems mean that they are the best in functions and capabilities? Or are they just overly priced systems?

Do the prices on the sales priced gps navigational systems mean that they will soon be replaced with newer models or are inferior products? Do reduced items mean that something is wrong with them or that you just got a good deal?

Do you compare gps navigational gps systems by the various functions and capabilities that each one has?

Do you start out by looking at the simple things such as the display unit itself on the gps navigational system? Should you compare such things as?

Size
Slimness
Weight
Placement of buttons
Color scheme
Various lighting settings and how they operate in each?
Size of the buttons
Resolutions sizes

Do you compare the basic functions that each navigational gps system may have and the ability each may have on tracking you’re:

Speed
Distance
Time spent between distances
Estimated time it takes to arrive to next destination

Do you then compare the mapping capabilities such as?

How many maps are all ready downloaded?
How many points of interests are all ready downloaded?
How easy it is to add more maps and how many are you allowed to add
How easily and how many more points of interests can you add
The actual way you add more maps and points of interests
Does the map allow for reverse trackback modes?

Should you compare the different ways directions are given and the ease of understanding, such directions as?

Turn by turn directions
Speech to text directions
The ability to hear spoken directions via the speakers of one’s cars

Should you compare the extra capabilities and functions that some systems may have that others do not such as:

Audio players
Audio book readers
JPEG viewers
Blue tooth capabilities
Compasses
Calculator
Measurement tools

Should you compare the different possible brand names that the navigational gps systems are manufactured by such as Garmin? Do these brand names mean that the system is better than the unknown brand?

Do you feel more secure by buying a brand name product?

Should you compare navigational gps systems by the reviews and ratings that are given to each by many popular websites and magazines?

If you choose to read and take those reviews as truth, pay close attention to such details as:

Who wrote the review (a writer, a real expert, a customer, a seller?)
Is anyone benefiting from the review (possibly a seller?)
Is this a true review or an advertisement disguised as one?
Was the review written by true customers?

Consumerreports.com is a great place for reading unbiased reviews. They won’t even accept products by manufactures to be given tested. They buy their own.

Amazon.com offers reviews by real customers. But those reviews are placed clear toward the bottom of the page. The top of the page is a description of the product written clearly for selling purposes, in hopes of landing sales.

Should you compare products by their sales quotas? Do the products that actually sell the best mean that they are better products or are just advertised better?

Should you compare products by what your friends and family consider the best products?

Should you compare products by what the experts say are the three biggest selling points?

Price

They suggest you work out a budget and figure out what you can easily afford to spend first. This will keep you from overspending and help you to pick out the product (in this case the gps navigational system) that fits your spending needs.

Ease of use

The experts all agree that if the product is hard to use or too complicated, we will become frustrated and soon we will grow weary of it. Sounds true.
Plus, if the product isn’t easy to use, it really has no purpose to us and will eventually just collect dust.

Accuracy

This is very important when it comes to a navigational gps system. It has to be able to find the exact addresses we need. It also needs to do it efficiently.

Actually, you should compare all the above the things. It is the best way you can ensure that you are getting the gps navigational system you not only need, but want and at the best deal possible. If you are able to do that, you will be happy with your choice and in yourself.

There should be no doubt in anyone’s minds that fuel prices have become simply unbearable. And as a result of soaring oil prices, so much more has been affected, including the cost of food and other forms of energy. With this type of unplanned cost thrown into the financial equation, many consumers are trying to figure out ways to cut their costs everyway they can. And some have found their solution after realizing that car GPS navigation systems save gas. If you’re familiar with GPS systems, then it may be possible to comprehend how they can help you save on fuel costs, but if you’re not familiar then this topic may fly right over your head. So let’s take a brief look at these units to understand how they can benefit you on a daily basis.

Understanding Global Positioning Units

Global positioning units are well loved because they offer the opportunity to get directions to and from any location in the country by simply punching in the addresses that you’re leaving and heading for. Now you may be used to having this luxury with one of the many online mapping services available. But when was the last time that you could haul your computer with you to update those directions if you changed your mind on your destination? And when was the last time that this online service was able to guide you turn by turn to your location. That’s how these handy little units up the ante on their perks in relation to the online system.

Now you have an idea of what they can do for you, but have you learned yet how car GPS navigation systems save gas? If not then continue reading. There’s more for you to learn.

Find the Shortest Route Every Time

One of the benefits of one of these gadgets is that they are set up to find you the shortest route to any location you want to travel. Of course, if you’re familiar with your own city, then you know that there are dozens of different ways to get where you need to go. But how car GPS navigation systems save gas for you is by choosing the quickest, or most fuel efficient, route to your destination.

This is especially beneficial for those who are new to the city they’re in and have yet to find the quickest route. For example, imagine that you have just started a new job in your new city and have been offered by co-workers a great route to take that will give you a view of the lake on your way in. This is fine and dandy until you realize that you have been traveling 10 minutes out of your way every morning. If you owned a global positioning system, you could have communicated with it instead of your co-workers and saved a ton on gas.

Take Advantage of Detours

Accidents on the road are about as common as blinking your eyes – you can count on them to happen. The same holds true for bad weather. But while these things are bound to happen from time to time it doesn’t mean they have to hold you up on your way to the office, or back to your house. It is for this reason that many of GPS units offer some type of traffic and weather alerts system to warn you of impending traffic tie-ups, or bad weather on the way that could affect travel. But even companies creating this feature probably didn’t predict that their car GPS navigation systems save gas too.

Think about it, if you are traveling on a road that is known to flood when it rains, yet you had no idea that thunderstorms were moving into the area, you could be rapidly approaching a situation that will leave you having to find a quick detour, or worse, get caught in the water. The benefits of one of these devices is then two-fold because you not only can learn of the problem before you reach it, but also have the system create a new route for you that still is the shortest and fuel efficient possible, while keeping you out of harm’s way.

It is a definite that car GPS navigation systems save gas. But how can you take advantage of this great perk? By seeking out some great units on the market like Garmin, Magellan, TomTom and Navigon that are known for being very accurate and reliable. That way, when you take your next trip in town or out of the area, you can see for yourself how car GPS navigation systems save gas.

It also comes with a digital compass, which is also a nice added touch from Bushnell. With the Onix400, you will be able to download satellite, topography and aerial maps right from the Bushnell website so you will have all the information you need at your fingertips. One great feature is after you download the maps this unit configures them to your current location, which is nice. It also comes with an integrated 128MB microSD card, which means you can hold a lot of data which is something I like a lot. With the USB cable, that you get you can download new maps from your computer and remove ones you never use which is great.

You also will be able to get Weather reports on the Bushnell Onix400 GPS system, but you will have to buy a subscription for that, but it is well worth the money to keep updated on where the storms are and if they will effect whatever you are doing right now. The unit is powered by a Li-Ion battery, which is rechargeable, and the Onix400 has a battery conservation mode so you will not run out of power when you need it the most.

The Bushnell Onix400 GPS Weather Tracker is very well made. It was made to handle rugged service and even if you happen to drop it do not work it has many things that protect it from getting hurt. One other thing that really makes this model stand out is the 1,000 waypoints that you can save on it even though most people do not use waypoints to their advantage as they can.

Overall, the Bushnell Onix400 GPS Weather Tracker is a very solid performer that can help you in many different ways. Everyone knows if you can have a step up on the weather it is much easier than if you do not. It lets you plan more outdoor activities without worrying about what your next move is. Other big advantages are if you are out in the elements it will give, you time to either make shelter or find shelter. This is very important especially if you are hiking and have no you cannot make it back in time. You will have to pay for the weather subscription, but it is well worth the kind of money you are spending. A traffic upgrade also is something that you may want to look into as well. This model is also very well constructed and should give you years of trouble free service. Being Bluetooth compatible is also a big feature that you really do not find in too many handhelds.
